The Division of Medical Image Computing is seeking a
PhD Student in Medical Image Computing
(Ref-No. 2023-0275)
In order to close the gap between basic and clinical research and together with selected university partner sites, the DKFZ has established the German Cancer Consortium (Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung, DKTK). The alliance between the DKFZ as the core center and the university partner sites in Berlin, Dresden, Essen/Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Mainz, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Munich and Tübingen establishes joint translation centers at the University Medical Centers of each of the selected partner site.
This open PhD position at the Medical Image Computing (MIC) division at DKFZ was established to further enable and enhance modern and distributed imaging research within the consortium on the basis of the Joint Imaging Platform (JIP), a strategic initiative to establish a technical infrastructure for medical image computing within the DKTK. We will develop and apply modern machine learning methods in medical image computing and build upon collaborations between the participating clinical sites and multicenter trials.

Description:
As part of a lively and dynamic network of excellent partners from versatile backgrounds, your specific responsibilities would be:
- Development and evaluation of methods for automatically segmenting organs in medical images
- Applying AI in federated clinical scenarios, algorithm development and application together with local and network-wide clinical and technical partners
- Contributing to the scientific output of the department (preparing challenges/workshops, writing papers, participating in conferences)
Your profile:
- Master’s degree in medical informatics or a related scientific discipline (e.g. computer science, mathematics, physics or statistics)
- Proficiency in coding with Python and PyTorch, with a proven track record of developing and implementing machine learning models
- Excellent analytical and software development skills
- Excellent English communication skills
